Good news for winter weather lovers of California, more snow is on its way this weekend, with a potential for more than two feet of snow to land in parts of the High Sierra.
According to the National Weather Service office in Hanford, CA, the Tioga Pass area has an 82% chance of seeing more than two feet between Friday at 5pm and Sunday at 5pm. Throughout the same period, Mammoth Mountain has a 57% and Sequoia National Park has a 51% chance of seeing more than two feet.
A maximum total slightly above 27 inches of snowfall is forecasted for the summit of Mammoth Mountain, while the resort’s main lodge is forecasted to receive a maximum closer to 22 inches of snowfall. A large amount of snow is certainly likely between Friday and Sunday. Tioga Pass, meanwhile, could see 6 to 10 inches of snowfall alone throughout Friday night, with a total of around 25 inches possible throughout the entire period.
Things look a little less exciting for the Greater Lake Tahoe area, though some snowfall is still likely. A winter storm warning for the area is in effect between 10am on Friday through 10pm on Saturday, warning of a potential for 1-2 feet of snowfall above 7,000 feet and 2-6 inches below 7,000 feet. Travel is likely to be dangerous, difficult, or potentially impossible.
