A dangerous booby trap was discovered and removed from a popular bike trail near Sheffield, England, sparking concern over who might be out to injure riders.

Mountain biking in Wharncliffe Woods

An image of the booby trap was shared to several local biking Facebook groups, including the Ride Sheffield group. According to the post shared by John Butterworth, the trap was a length of wire filled electric fencing mesh hung right around where a bike rider’s head would likely be located.

John was walking his dog when he discovered the trap the morning of Friday, November 8. The trap, discovered in the Wharncliffe Woods area, was taken down after its discovery.

It’s been removed and taken away. But it was tied tight and well and clearly intended to do harm. Be vigilant as there’s an idiot kicking about again.” – John Butterworth

This is nowhere near the first time booby traps have been discovered on mountain bike trails around the world. Earlier this year, a saboteur left grease, glass, and tent spikes on a trail in Spokane, Washington, while other cases have included large, swinging boulders, nail-filled planks, and much more.
