It’s felt like a very warm and dry fall here in Colorado. Yes some ski areas have begun testing and working their snow guns, but it still feels like we’re miles from ski season with temperatures having remained quite high during the day. But Chris Tomer‘s 10 day forecast has some potentially very good news for several areas in the Intermountain West.
Chris Tomer has been in mountain meteorology for around 20 years, consulting for expeditions while providing detailed forecasts for winter recreators around North America. Tomer has consulted for expeditions around the world, including at least one on all 14 of the world’s 8,000 meter peaks. His passion for skiing and the outdoors shines through in his mountain weather updates, providing detailed 10 day snow forecasts for most of North America.
From today (10/9) to the middle of next week (10/16) snowfall will continue to accumulate primarily only in British Columbia, with Whistler Blackcomb, Revelstoke, and Sunshine Village looking at just around an inch over the next 10 days. Marmot Basin, in Alberta, could see up to 7 inches in the same period. During the last few days of our 10 day forecast, 10/17 & 10/18, a little bit of snow fall could come to Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah, with Big Sky forecasted to receive up to 4 inches. Things look like they could get good in Southwest Colorado, too, with Purgatory forecasted for up to 6 inches and Silverton up to 8″.
