Hoist rescue of a lost and dehydrated hiker.

RIVERSIDE, California – A hiker found himself lost and in serious distress while hiking along the Pacific Crest Trail in Riverside, California. The area at 7,000 feet was unusually hot, sitting around 78°F, when the hiker ran out of water. Fortunately he was able to activate his Garmin InReach, calling for help and receiving a hoist rescue. Hook-In-Hand documented the rescue process and shared it to their YouTube channel.

You should not drink your own urine, even in survival situations. According to Poison Control, as urine contains waste from the human body, it could very easily cause illness, vomiting, nausea, and more, inevitably making you more dehydrated than before. It can also cause a buildup of salts, minerals and toxins, once again leaving you more dehydrated than if you hadn’t drank the liquid at all. So even if you’ve seen it in a movie or show, drinking your urine isn’t likely to improve your chances of survival.
