Voile strap nylon buckle durability test.
Voile strap nylon buckle durability test.

Voile Straps are infinitely useful. Though they started as ski straps they’ve since evolved into something so much more, with use in hiking, biking, mechanics, general life, and much more. While they began with an aluminum buckle, Voile’s nylon buckles have become near equally as popular.

Personally I prefer the nylon buckle. It’s less abrasive and feels less likely to scratch my gear. But some people might have a few questions surrounding the durability of the plastic compared to the aluminum. Fortunately the company released a video with Dave Grissom from manufacturing to show just how durable they really are.

The nylon just bends when put under pressure, and a Voile Strap usually works just fine with a bent tip. If you bend it back and forth again and again, you’ll probably be able to break it, but if you need to use it with a bent tip you absolutely can.

If you’ve never seen a Voile Strap in your life and are wondering “how am I supposed to use that?”, Voile has a handy video for that as well. If you haven’t already, go grab some Voile Straps and toss them in your repair kit. They’re like non-permanent duct tape, you can fix so many things with these bad boys.

All types of Voile Straps, including all sizes, buckles, and the rack straps, can be purchased on Voile’s website. Both the 25 inch nylon buckle straps and the 25 inch aluminum buckle straps cost $8.50 a piece.
