Little Cottonwood Canyon, Utah — Snowbird’s first lift replacement since Gad 2 in 2013 is well underway.
Wilbere, one of Snowbird’s original chairlifts, is being replaced this offseason by a new Doppelmayr fixed-grip quad chairlift. It will feature a new base terminal located around the Creekside base area near the Bryce Astle Training Center and the Mid-Gad chairlift. This will give more convenient access to racers and those who park around Gad Valley. There will be a loading conveyor at the base terminal. The top terminal will be situated around the same location.
Yesterday, Snowbird gave their second construction update on the Wilbere project, saying that the project is halfway finished. They’ve removed the old lift towers and are now focusing on the new lift. The new lift towers were put into place, and now they’re focusing on installing the steel into the future terminals. After that, they’ll work on hanging and splicing the haul rope. It was also revealed that this project will include upgraded power and snowmaking infrastructure in the Wilbere terrain pod.
The new Wilbere chairlift is on track to open during the 2024-25 season.
