Foil boarding behind an R/C boat.
Foil boarding behind an R/C boat.

Daniel Riley of rctestflight decided the best way to learn how to pump a foil board would be to build up a powerful R/C boat and see if he could pull himself behind it. If you’re a fan of home engineering, surfing, foilboarding, or just cool things, you’ll enjoy watching this video over lunch.

Now, stuff like this does already exist, and is available for purchase right now. The Zerotow Boogie, for example. And people have been building their own custom ones for a while (there are forums full of people talking specs and design out there), but it’s really fascinating to see how Daniel goes through the problem solving process to wind up with such a cool, and functional, design.
