Mammoth Lakes, California — It’s been another busy summer at Mammoth Mountain.
After replacing the Canyon Express (Chair 16) last offseason, Mammoth has been working on replacing the Broadway Express (Chair 1). A Doppelmayr D-Line high-speed detachable six-pack chairlift is replacing the old Chair 1. The terminals will be a significant upgrade, with in-terminal parking for the chairs to reduce cleanup during storm days. The base terminal will have a 90-degree loading station with a loading conveyer, increasing efficiency. The new chairlift will have an uphill capacity of 3000 people per hour, a 25% increase compared to the old Chair 1.
Mammoth Mountain announced last week that they have installed all the lift towers for the new chairlift. The high-flying process involved help from helicopter crews and workers on the ground. Work continues on both the upper and lower terminals. They’re on pace to open the chairlift during the 2024-25 season.
Other chairlift improvements are underway. The Face Lift Express (Chair 3) and Unbound Express (Chair 6) are getting upgraded controls and new AC Drives. This will help improve their reliability and efficiency, meaning guests will spend less time waiting in line.
Mammoth’s projected opening date is November 15th. Think snow!
