The World Dog Surfing Championship

PACIFICA, California – The World Dog Surfing Championship took place at Linda Mar Beach in Pacifica, California this past weekend, bringing together the most talented surfing dogs for the world to enjoy.

Dogs surfed from 9:20am to 1:30pm on August 3, with 10 awards up for grabs. Small dogs are those that weigh between 1 and 20 pounds, medium dogs weigh between 21 and 40 pounds, large dogs weigh between 41-60 pounds, and very large dogs weigh above 61 pounds. The overall winner of the Top Dog competition was Cacau, a chocolate lab from Brazil in the very large dog category, but all of the dogs were amazing, as all dogs will always be.

Dogs are judged with five categories, length of ride, technique, confidence, size or strength of wave, and other style aspects. They can earn a total of 10 points, based on the five categories, from each judge. Dogs are required to use foam or foam and fiberglass boards, and are required to wear dog life jackets or vests.
