SNOWBASIN, Utah – No, you weren’t dreaming yesterday, Utah was selected to host the 2034 Winter Olympics at a ceremony in France. That means all of our best winter athletes, competing on home snow and ice in the Olympics for the first time in 32 years. It also means some resorts and areas that we know and love will wind up as locations for some of our favorite events. Like Snowbasin Resort, where the downhill skiing will occur in the 2034 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
“Snowbasin is honored to be chosen once again as a venue for the 2034 Winter Olympic Games. Over the last four years we’ve been working with the Organizing Committee to provide our world-renowned terrain to the best Alpine athletes from around the globe. With Snowbasin now hosting all Alpine events for the 2034 games, we will once again showcase what makes this mountain special. Guests to Snowbasin have been skiing our famous downhill runs since the first games in 2002, and we are thrilled to host the world again in 2034.” – Davy Ratchford, General Manager of Snowbasin Resort
Snowbasin hosted the downhill, super-g, and combined races in 2002, taking place on the Grizzly Downhill and Wildflower Downhill. Both courses were designed by Bernhard Russi, a Swiss Olympic champion and architect, and both are still open to visitors todaya. The Grizzly Downhill drops 3,000 vertical feet across two miles, while the Wildflower drops 2,625 vertical feet.
Snowbasin has the most parking in the area, and the 25,000-seat stadium from the 2002 Olympics will host a crowd once again. Additionally, the resort has invested in significant upgrades over the past several years, including 5 new or improved lifts, multiple new restaurants, snowmaking instillations and renovations, parking expansions, and new bathrooms.
