Australia Last week, significant snowfall occurred at ski resorts in Australia. Despite some rain on Sunday, ski resorts were able to open new terrain.

Recently, Selwyn Snow Resort opened up the Race Course T-Bar for skiing and riding. This terrain pod features a variety of intermediate and advanced terrain. Open runs in this area include Boomerang, Pig Gully, Plum Pine, Race Course, and Summit. However, not every run in this area is currently open. Closed runs include Brunby’s Rush, Long Arm, Kangaroo Ridge, Forget Me Not, Matilda’s Maze, Mystery Pass, and Tantangara Drive. The aforementioned closed trails meander below the Powerline Poma, eventually reaching the Race Course T-Bar. The ski resort mostly caters to beginner skiers, so this lift opening gives more tenured skiers and riders a solid reason to visit.

If you’re wondering why it’s been half a decade since Selwyn opened this terrain, it’s been a tumultuous start to the decade for the Australian ski resort. In late 2019 and early 2020, a bushfire caused serious damage to Selwyn, resulting in years of rebuilding efforts.

They were initially expected to reopen in 2022, but significant rainfall and snowfall, along with supply chain delays, stalled the renovations, leading them to aim for the 2023 season. The new additions since the bushfire include TT10 snowmaking equipment, a new visitors center/base lodge, and refurbished lifts. However, low snowfall led to an early closure during the 2023 ski season.

Following numerous power outages during the 2023 ski season, Selwyn modernized its electricity network, improving reliability during storm cycles and other freak weather events.

We’re always fans of a good comeback story, and this place certainly fits the bill.
