Avalanche rips by mountaineers in Canada.

CANADA – Here’s a reminder that just because we’re in warm, summer conditions, doesn’t mean avalanches are suddenly impossible where there’s snow. Anywhere there’s snow on a steep slope, a slide is possible. This video gives a good idea as to just how gnarly these warmer weather slides can be.

For those planning on heading into the mountains this summer, the Colorado Avalanche Information Center has a great page on summer avalanche safety worth checking out. Wet avalanches in particular are quite possible during the warmer months, so make sure you’re assessing risk and safety any time you’re going to be traversing or spending time on snow.
