Bears are out and about like crazy this time of year, many of them leaving their hibernation and becoming more active months ago. With an increase in bear stories and videos appearing on your feed, you might be asking yourself, how should I prepare my home to keep away these animals?

Fortunately Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has you and everyone else covered. The video below does a great job highlighting the most important parts to keeping bears away from your home, including containing smelly garbage, putting away bird feeders, and use electric fences to protect certain areas of your yard.

This is a great video to get things going, but you can dig a lot deeper on the CPW website. Make sure to check what your areas wildlife service recommends, too. What works in Colorado might not work as well in other states or countries, depending on the types of bears frequently seen.
