Dallas LeBeau, a 21-year-old skier from Gilpin County, tragically lost his life in an accident while attempting to ski jump across Highway 40 on Berthoud Pass in Colorado. This incident occurred on Tuesday, April 9. FOX31’s Greg Nieto relayed sentiments from a childhood friend of LeBeau, highlighting a unique connection between LeBeau and the legendary Evel Knievel, sharing the same birthday.

The unfortunate event unfolded around 3 p.m., when the Grand County Communications Center received an emergency call about a skiing accident along Highway 40, near Mile Post 241.5, just west of the Berthoud Pass Summit, as per the Grand County Sheriff’s Office. Initially found unconscious, LeBeau was receiving CPR from a bystander when emergency services arrived, but was pronounced deceased at the scene.

LeBeau had been attempting a daring jump across the highway at Berthoud Pass. Despite wearing a helmet and protective gear, he did not achieve the necessary speed, resulting in a fatal impact on the pavement. The Grand County Coroner’s Office is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident and will disclose the cause and manner of LeBeau’s death in due course.

The community and LeBeau’s family and friends are mourning this immense loss, and their grief is acknowledged with deep sympathy.
