EUGENE, Oregon – Multiple sighting of a wolverine in Eugene, Oregon, were confirmed by the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW). The animal, which is believed to be the same spotted multiple times, has appeared in several different towns throughout the past several weeks.
Redditor u/Proud-Performer8052 posted a video they filmed outside of a home in Eugene, explaining in the description that they did confirm the animals identity with Fish and Wildlife.
According to a post on X from ODFW late last month, the animal had been spotted in Nehalem, Netarts and Newport through the last weeks of March.
“Everyone needs a trip to the coast, right? Wolverine sightings continued this year with confirmed reports in Nehalem, Netarts and Newport over the last week and a half! The most recent sighting was in Newport on Thursday, March 21.“
Wolverine sightings are not a common occurrence in the United States. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, there are less that 400 of these animals in the contiguous United States. Late 2023, wolverines began receiving federal protection under the Endangered Species Act.
Spotting a wild wolverine is certainly a once in a lifetime experience! Pretty cool that these people got to live that moment. Hopefully the animal is okay and will remain healthy as the weather warms.
