TOGAKUSHI SKI RESORT, Japan – Tom Gellie of Big Picture Skiing took some laps with Japanese ski instructor and 4-time Japanese National Ski Technique champion Miku Kuriyama, the skier he believes is the happiest in the world.

Miku Kuriyama has to be one of the happiest skiers I have ever met. She also happens to be one of the best female technical skiers in the world. Any type of turn doesn’t matter she can rip it up…. and FAST. I spent one afternoon skiing with her at Togakushi Ski resort in Japan. it was a lot of fun. – Miku Kuriyama

Sometimes, if things don’t seem to going quite the way you want them to go, skiing can be a bit frustrating or annoying. Maybe your boots aren’t fitting quite how you want them, maybe the conditions aren’t good, or maybe you just didn’t stretch enough to start the day.

Think of Miku next time you’re feeling that way. Think about the fun of just getting on your edge. Take a minute to appreciate the feeling of the wind, the snow, and the speed. If you’re still not having fun after that, you should probably take a break. Skiing is skiing, skiing is fun.
