Have you ever prepared yourself for a massive snow storm based on a weather app, only for there to be no snow whatsoever? Drove all the way to the ski resort only to find it dry? Put on your sunscreen, swimsuit, and sunglasses, hyped up for the beach, only to find that it’s cloudy despite your app saying it would be gorgeously sunny?

Weather apps are notoriously bad, especially during high impact weather events. Maybe they completely fail to predict the weather. Maybe they give such a broad temperature range that you have absolutely no idea what to wear or do in a given day. But why is this? And why should you trust a meteorologist to interpret data over an app on your smartphone? 9News meteorologist Chris Bianchi (who you should really follow on X, formerly Twitter, if you live in Colorado) has the answer.

So what’s the better alternative? Rather than just averaging out all of the weather models to give you one answer, a meteorologist can give you a good idea of what’s possible.

Now I’m not saying meteorologists are always right. The weather is super unpredictable and it’s impossible to predict with 100% accuracy. But getting a general idea of what could happen, mixed with the predictions of experts, is probably going to give you your best chance at knowing what’s coming in the future.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my weather apps. I, admittedly, pay for multiple weather app subscriptions just so I know where the best snow might be on my upcoming days off. But I still trust local and national meteorologists over anything I see on my phone. Chris Bianchi is phenomenal for general weather in Colorado.

If you’re looking for a mountain weather specific meteorologist, you know we need to shout out the legend Chris Tomer, who typically drops two weather forecasts a day focused specifically on snowfall at resort’s across the United States. If you’re looking for someone to look at every possible model and forecast, look no further than Direct Weather.
