Potential Bomb Cyclone Over The Great Lakes Means Bitter Cold In Colorado

We’re headed into an extremely cold weekend in Colorado, with temperatures potentially reaching into the negatives in Denver. The weak surface load that’s sitting over Colorado today, Thursday, will begin to move east, rapidly expanding and growing as it does so. By the time it reaches the Great Lakes Region, it will have turned into a powerful cyclone, possibly even a bomb cyclone.

That could mean quite a lot of snow and weather for the midwest, but it doesn’t mean many direct weather changes for Colorado. The movement of the cyclone, though, combined with cold air from the polar vortex, will likely create the coldest three days Denver and Colorado has seen this year. That’s what we’re coming upon this weekend.

Meteorologist Cory Reppenhagen, of 9News, does a much better job of explaining this than I’ll ever be able to. Hopefully this weekend/week delivers across the country. It seems like everyone could use a good bit of snow these days.
