Heavenly will offer free shuttle rides to and from Kirkwood after the gondola remained closed for a second day in a row on Friday due to mechanical issues in the high-speed shaft.
According to the Tahoe Daily Tribune, the resort reached maximum capacity around 1pm on Thursday, with many skiers facing massive delays in getting off the mountain. Parking at the California Lodge reached capacity around 9am on Friday, with a shuttle running guests back and forth from the base of the non-functioning gondola throughout the day.
Guests will be able to ride a free shuttle to Kirkwood and back in the afternoon to make up for the lack of parking at and access to Heavenly. The shuttle will depart from South Lake Tahoe’s Stateline Transit Center at 7:45am, with boarding beginning at 7:15am. The shuttle is scheduled to depart from the base of Kirkwood at 4:30pm, returning guests to the Stateliness Transit Center.
Shuttle spots can be reserved here. The Stagecoach base is also set to open Saturday morning, giving more base access to guests around the mountain.
“Quick reminder that Stagecoach is a GO for tomorrow morning! We are super stoked to add another base area, and it should be a huge help in uploading and downloading while the Gondola is repaired.”
Parts to repair the gondola were shipped overnight from Europe to California on the morning of January 5, with work beginning as early as that day. A timeline on when the work will be completed is not yet clear.
As for the Gondola, we’re glad to share that the required parts were overnighted to us from Europe, which will allow us to begin work on the repair as early as today. We’ve got our expert lift maintenance team members ready, along with team members from our manufacturing partner, to begin work the moment these critical parts arrive.
