“As the atmospheric river subsides and colder temps move into the area, we’ll reevaluate conditions and look for opportunities to reopen.”

Schweitzer Ski resort in Idaho has pressed pause on operations after receiving 6 inches of rain in the span of 48 hours. KXLY reports Schweitzer closed on Monday in anticipation of the rain and now will remain closed through Thursday when crews evaluate mountain conditions.

While skiing and snowboarding isn’t currently an option lodging, dining, and the spa will remain open, along with the Spot Bus Shuttle. Schweitzer will continue to report mountain conditions daily on its website. Here is the latest updated from Schweitzer

All Lifts & Terrain Closed Thursday, December 7th

Good afternoon Schweitzer community. Tomorrow we hope to be at the beginning stages of understanding how this historic rainfall has affected our beloved mountain. In total, the Village has received around 6 inches of rain over the last 48 hours, challenging our early season snowmaking efforts and snowpack preservation.

Right now, our plan is to extend our current hold through tomorrow, Thursday, December 7th to allow water to recede and give our crews a chance to evaluate conditions on the mountain. The extended closure includes the Basin Express and Musical Carpet lifts and terrain, as well as all Nordic trails.

As we look ahead in the forecast, we are feeling optimistic with temperatures dropping overnight and snow in the forecast as early as tomorrow. At this point, it’s too early to tell when we’ll be able to reopen for skiing and riding, but know we are doing everything we can to get back up and running. Stay tuned here for daily updates on conditions and operational changes.
