Currently, the State of Vermont is having a better start to its ski season than some ski resorts out in the West. The ski resorts in Central and Northern Vermont have received some surprisingly major snowstorms over the past couple of days. While some mountains saw a bit of rain with the system on Sunday night through Monday morning, this wet snowstorm was a base builder, which is a promising sign for November. In addition, it’s still snowing.
The big winner from this system was Jay Peak, which recorded 15″ of snow from Sunday night to Monday. On Tuesday, they received another 3-12″ of snow. According to their Thursday report, they have received two feet of snow over the past 48 hours. Jay Peak is currently closed but will reopen on Friday for daily operations with expanded terrain offerings. More snow is expected throughout the week.
The ski resorts around Mt. Mansfield saw plentiful snowfall as well. Stowe Mountain Resort received 10″ of snow from Sunday into Monday and another 10″ from Tuesday into Wednesday. As of Tuesday, Smugglers’ Notch received 8-12″ of snow. This POV from WhiteRoom Skis gives you a sense of how the skiing was at Smuggs yesterday.
Over in the Mad River Valley, Sugarbush and Mad River Glen also got dumped on. Before the snowfall, Sugarbush only had limited terrain and lifts open. Thanks to 21″ of snow since Monday, they now have top-to-bottom skiing on Lincon Peak. They currently have 26 trails and 3 lifts open. Mad River Glen, which has yet to open this season, received 14-17″ of snow from this system as of Wednesday.
Following the Killington Cup, the Beast of the East also saw some decent snowfall. They have accumulated 14″ of snow in the couple of days, and now have twenty-four trails open.
According to OpenSnow, more snow is on the way throughout the week. All in all, not a bad start to the week for the “Ice Coast.”
