“I know Jake would be cheering from the sidelines.”-Donna Carpenter, Owner and Chair of Burton.
If there’s something that comes close to my passion for skiing, it’s basketball. I’m personally a Celtics fan, so I was pretty stoked to see a major announcement from the NBA team and Burton Snowboards yesterday.
On November 13th, the Boston Celtics and Burton Snowboards announced that they will be selling 77 snowboards that hold a major significance to the NBA franchise’s history. Mine77, which is Jake Burton’s signature collection of limited-edition outerwear, apparel, and equipment, has a special ingredient with this collaboration. The wood used to build the snowboard is from the 2008 NBA Finals Celtics parquet floor, which is the last time they won the chip.
The snowboards are on sale today at 10:00 a.m. for $1300.77, with only seventy-seven available to the public (Update 11 a.m.: They’ve sold out 😞). The 77 number comes from the year 1977, when Burton Snowboards was founded in Londonderry, Vermont. Jake fell in love with the number, which is why they’re doing this in honor of the Celtic’s 77th year.
Jake Burton Carpenter was an avid Celtics fan. The Carpenter family has had season ticket holders for the past 29 years, which included the 2008 title run.
In addition, Celtics superstar Jaylen Brown and Burton Snowboarder Zeb Powell are good friends, as they are both Red Bull athletes. JB got a snowboard from Zeb earlier this year, so it’s pretty cool to see these two link up again.
Here’s hoping that a Miami Heat fan doesn’t grab one of these boards.
