Every year, HomeToGo releases an in-depth of the ski industry and costs within the ski industry. It’s all to advertise for their vacation rental services, of course, but that doesn’t mean their numbers are incorrect. This year we got the Colorado Ski Price Index, an analysis of just the Colorado ski industry, and we thought we’d take a good look at it.

To determine the “affordable ski areas in Colorado” list, HomeToGo considered two main factors: the price for a daily lift ticket and the nightly price for nearby rentals. Lift ticket prices were collected based on a single adult pass for the 2023/24 season. When the ski area’s websites required that a specific date be chosen (like most of them do these days), researchers selected February 17, 2024. Prices were collected in October, so they may have gone up since then depending on the resort.

Rental prices were collected based on median nightly price-per-person for locations found on the HomeToGo website. Lodging had to be within two miles of the resort to be considered, and the median was gathered from prices between December 1, 2023 and March 31, 2024.

Only 11 resorts are on this list. There are many, many more ski areas in Colorado that weren’t featured. The research only considered the top searched ski destinations on the HomeToGo website and reduced the list to the areas with 44 miles of ski slope or more. So, if you’re wondering why your favorite ski area didn’t make the list, it’s probably just A) too small or B) too underground.

So, without any further delay, here’s Colorado’s top 11 ski areas ranked by price, according to HomeToGo:

  1. Purgatory Resort: $96 lift ticket, $133.98 lodging, $229.98 total
  2. Crested Butte: $155 lift ticket, $141.33 lodging, $296.33 total
  3. Winter Park Resort: $219 lift ticket, $116.95 lodging, $335.95 total
  4. Keystone Resort: $220.00 lift ticket, $124.02 lodging, $344.02 total
  5. Copper Mountain: $199.00 lift ticket, $159.00 lodging, $358.00 total
  6. Steamboat Resort: $218.00 lift ticket, $159.35 lodging, $377.35 total
  7. Breckenridge Resort: $251.00 lift ticket, $149.61 lodging, $400.61 total
  8. Telluride Ski Resort: $225.00 lift ticket, $258.11 lodging, $483.11 total
  9. Vail: $269.00 lift ticket, $216.77 lodging, $485.77 total
  10. Beaver Creek: $269.00 lift ticket, $247.51 lodging, $516.51 total
  11. Aspen Mountain: $239.00 lift ticket, $369.23 lodging, $608.23 total

Nothing too surprising here. I’m a bit surprised to see some of the lodging that cheap per person, especially since that’s the median, but I guess if anyone would know, it’s HomeToGo.
