In the 11 years since its inception, no one had been able to break the 1 hour mark at Jackhole’s Rendezvous Mountain Hillclimb footrace but that changed this summer.
The extremely challenging course covers 6.2 miles with 4,139 feet of vertical. Congratulations to the winner Joseph Gray who broke the 1 hour threshold and finished in an incredible 57 minutes 56 seconds (9:35 pace). Also shoutout to Tyler McCandless who was hot on his heels finishing in 59 minutes 7 seconds (9:46 pace).
Check out the highlights below and if you feel inspired to take on the challenge start training today and plan on being in Wyoming next August.
“It’s been 11 years in the making. 4,139 vertical feet of running over 6.2 miles. Breaking the one-hour mark at the Rendezvous Mountain Hillclimb has eluded the best of runners since its inception, but this year we can finally congratulate not one, but two racers on achieving this monumental feat of endurance and perseverance! A massive congratulations to Joseph Gray (time: 57 min, 56 sec) and Tyler McCandless (time: 59 min, 7 sec) for pushing the boundaries of what we thought was possible on the trails at Jackson Hole. Additionally, a massive congratulations to Jennifer Lichter on finishing first in the women’s category with a time of one hour, eight minutes and 50 seconds.”
