It’s pretty hard for me to even think about a life without snow. I grew up with it. Every winter, snow storms cancelled school, knocked out power, and provided some pretty killer skiing on the East Coast. But there are plenty of people in this world who may go their whole lives without seeing snow, and definitely a ton of people who will never be given the opportunity to try skiing or snowboarding.
Fortunately, organizations like Ski Utah exist, putting on some amazing programs like Discover Winter. This past winter, Discover Winter took upwards of 150 people from Future Scholars of Africa, Weber State University’s Diversity Clubs, Outdoor Afro, and many other organizations to the mountains for ski or snowboard lessons. Andy Koffi, originally from the Ivory Coast, was one of those individuals.
Huge shoutout to Ski Utah, Morgan Stanley, the Larry H. Miller Foundation, and every other organization or company involved in making programs like this happen. We love seeing people trying and learning the sport that’s made us so happy for so long.
