Matchstick Productions needs no introduction. They are the world’s most awarded ski film brand and fully equipped production boutique. Their movies are equal parts inspiring storyline and “Huck Yeah.” This unique combination has garnered much support over the last 30 years enabling MSP to produce more than 25 films and 120 TV episodes while racking up six Sports Emmy Nominations. Matchstick Productions has cemented itself right up near the top among the great outdoor production companies in the world. Not bad for a company that started small in the Colorado ski town of Crested Butte.

Now Matchstick Productions is attempting to showcase their films and their love for their hometown’s reputation as an iconic ski destination in a creative new way. Beginning this March, Matchstick Productions announced a new partnership with Elevation Hotel & Spa – the only ski-in, ski-out resort located at the base of Crested Butte Mountain Resort by debuting a new lounge concept called the Matchstick Lounge.

Location & Atmosphere That Ignites Your Passion

With a prime location right at the base of Crested Butte and a unique concept, the Matchstick Lounge is bound to ignite your passion. Yes, it will have a pool table, darts and TVs like most ski bars do. However, it’s the theme and the experience that separates this lounge from others.

Inspired by MSP’s deep history in action sports and its cutting-edge content, the new lounge at the Elevation Hotel will feature 30 years of MSP film posters, vintage cameras, skis and behind-the-scenes production photos; in addition to a pool table, darts and state-of-the-art AV for sporting events, film screenings and world premieres.

“For more than 30 years, the crew at Matchstick Productions has been proud to call Crested Butte home,” says Murray Wais, Executive Producer and Director at Matchstick Productions. “We are excited to partner with Elevation to open a space where we can celebrate the sports we love, while sharing in the passion of film.”

An Immersive Destination for All

As stated earlier, this is more than just your average ski bar. The Matchstick Lounge intends to become an immersive destination for locals and visitors alike. Film screenings, athlete signings, and industry and resort parties will become the norm there throughout the year.

But, what’s an après ski bar without food and drink?

The Matchstick Lounge will have that too, offering food and beverage service through Elevation Hotel’s José Crested Butte and the Billy Barr. José offers a selection of regional Mexican-inspired dishes, cocktails and extensive tequila collection while Billy Barr offers a range of Crested Butte-inspired items including paninis and sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie boards, and craft cocktails.

“We’re thrilled to launch this project in partnership with our friends at Matchstick Productions,” says Nick Klaus, managing director for Elevation Hotel & Spa. “With the hotel’s proximity to the lifts, we know this will become a sought-after destination for skiers and mountain bikers to gather and immerse themselves in the incredible content that MSP is known for.”

Location is key and Crested Butte’s Elevation Hotel certainly has that. Combine Elevation Hotel’s proximity to the base of the mountain with Matchstick Production’s prowess in the ski media world and you have the makings of a highly creative lounge concept that will no doubt be an attraction for all who pass through.
