Lake Tahoe’s Clarity Is Currently 2x Better Than Normal

Lake Tahoe is renowned for its crystal-clear blue waters all year long.

Summer kayakers can normally expect to see 60-70 feet down, but the visibility is nearly twice as good right now.

According to Geoff Schladow, director of the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research, Lake Tahoe’s clarity peaked at 115 feet this past weekend.

The dramatic rise in clarity is a result of the lake’s waters ‘flipping’.
