Dan and John Egan are two of my personal heroes.

The brothers paved the way for the modern big mountain and freeride skiers we love today through their various appearances in Warren Miller movies throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

The Egans might be known for charging big lines across the globe, but they started out making turns at little ol’ Blue Hills Ski Area in Canton, Massachusetts.

Dan and John were both inducted into the Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame back in 2016.

According to the Milton Times, the brothers just recently dedicated the plaque honoring their careers to Blue Hills:

“Blue Hills was our neighborhood ski area,” Dan said. “Little Blue Hills has created so many great skiers. It’s a fascinating place.”

Love for skiing led John and his older brother Bob to form the first Milton High ski team in 1972. Also helping create that team was another passionate skier, Paul Ajemian.”

I’m an east coaster myself.

I look up to the Egans for not only what they did for skiing as a whole, but how they inspired millions of east coast skiers.

They always made me believe that it didn’t matter where I started out as a kid, I could still become a good skier.

Kudos to them for honoring where they got their start.
