In honor of the spookiest month of the year, here’s a cool little story about a bizarre theme park that is located on top of Beech Mountain, which is a popular North Carolina ski resort. Youtuber Expedition Theme Park dove into the history of the bizarre Land Of Oz, a walkthrough theme park that recreates the world created by the famous books and movies.
The video covers the origins of the theme park, the memorabilia from the 1939 movie that was purchased for the Land Of Oz museum, the success of its early years, its bankruptcy periods, the arson and theft event that the park faced, its periods as an abandoned theme park, its revival, and how it technically remains open to this day. The Land Of Oz has been an abandoned attraction at times, but it currently runs during a few September weekends as a walkthrough attraction. Even if it isn’t technically abandoned, the whole thing is a bit spooky to me, as are most things that are Oz-related.
The video from Expedition Theme Park is below, and go check out his other videos if you’re into the history of amusement and theme parks.
