VIDEO: Panicked Sea Lion Evading Killer Whales Nearly Capsizes Boat

“It tipped the boat over to the point where we had to hang on to the gunnels, the water started pouring into the boat … I was just hoping that we wouldn’t totally tip over.” –Ernest Godek

A panicked California sea lion evading a pod of killer whales nearly capsized a 14-foot aluminum boat in Pedder Bay, BC. Times Colonist reports Ernest and Viesia Godek saw the orcas and cut their motor on Monday afternoon. Shortly afterward a sea lion impacted the bottom of their boat. Seconds later the terrified sea lion surfaced. Ernest started the motor to vacate the area and thats when the animal launched itself in attempt to get away from the killer whales. It was such a flurry of action they aren’t exactly sure if the sea lion landed inside the boat but it may have for a couple of seconds.  With the boat swamped, the pair motored away with the sea lion as followed along porpoising. In the end, the killer whales left the area and sea lion survived. Gnarly day on the water for this pair. Wild.
