“Fischer’s going to have a cool story to tell when he goes back to school.” –Kent Hricko

Nurse sharks are normally known to be docile sea creatures but this 13-year-old boy from Oviedo, Florida may have a different opinion. Fischer Hricko was lobster diving with his family in the Florida keys when he came face to face with a nurse shark. The shark bit Fischer on the lip and the boy grabbed it and pulled it away from his face. After surfacing he hauled as back to his family’s boat bleeding from his mouth:

“Then I just swam as fast as I could back to the boat, screaming.”

Fischer’s family got him back on the boat and rushed to shore where they drove to an urgent care clinic. Fishcher received at least 10 stitches on his upper lip. With his lipped stitched and more days left on his vacation, Fischer wasn’t going to let the mishap get in the way of fun and got back on the water the next day but stayed in the boat to fish.

He actually hooked up a four foot shark but was unable to land it but he believes it was a good way to bookend his family trip. He can’t get back into the water until his lip heals but he plans to as soon as he recovers. This kid is gonna have a really cool story to tell to his classmates when school gets back in session.
