Ever thought to yourself, “man, I would give so much to be able to ride a true electric mountain bike powered by wonderful Harley-Davidson electronics and technology”? No? Me neither…
Well it no longer matters if you have or haven’t had that thought, because now you can give around $4,500 for exactly that!
That’s right, Harley-Davidson recently dropped the Serial 1 SWITCH/MTN, their first full blown, front suspension electric mountain bike, featuring a SR Suntour Suspension Fork, the TranzX Dropper Seat Post, SRAM SX Eagle 1×12 Drivetrain, and Michelin Off-Road Tires.
With just the power of the motor, this bad boy can reach up to 20 mph, reaching higher speeds with assistance from the pedals. And, with it’s large battery, it can travel anywhere from 30-95 miles before it dies.
So why should you buy this dope bike? I have no idea, I’m not a fan of electric mountain bikes.
If you want a bike that can get you up hills with little effort so you can enjoy the downhill cruise, I don’t know that this would be the best option, as it only has front suspension (I’ve tried doing some downhill with a hardtail, it really isn’t all that fun) (also I’m not good at mountain biking, so my opinion probably shouldn’t matter all that much to you).
If you want a cross country mountain bike, then you should probably not be getting one with a motor, as that kind of defeats the purpose of cross country mountain biking, and if you simply want an electric bike to help you get around, I get a feeling this might be a bit too beefy.
But, I guess, if you’re a big fan of Harley-Davidson, and you’re a big fan of mountain bikes, this may be just the option for you! I’m just not sure how many people who love both of those things so much that they’d buy a combination of them exist…
That being said, I’m waiting for the video of some squid riding up to a Harley-Davidson meetup on one of these electric mountain bikes, only to either leave out of sheer embarrassment, or to get the boot by some gruff-lookin Harley boys.
Also, the below advertisement for the bike might be one of the funniest mountain bike ads I’ve ever seen, and I have to imagine the humor of it is in no way intentional…
