“I thought I had tripped, and then we pulled our security cameras and then we realized no, the bear actually hit me.” –Diane Fillion

Wild scene capture by a security camera pointed at a front yard in Manitoba, Canada where a woman attempting to defend her dog was tackled by a black bear.

CTV News reports Diane Fillion was playing with her dog when it spotted a bear cub and treed it. That’s when momma bear came on scene and put up a quick chase of the family dog before diverting her attention to Fillion. The bear knocked Fillion to the ground but she gave a quick up kick and swing of the stick she was holding and the bear backed off and retreated to the woods.

Fillion escaped the bear attack with only a few bruises, the dog was completely fine.

If you live in bear country its important to you keep a tidy property to avoid encounters. Keep your yard clean, your garbage cans secure and remove bird feeders in the summer months to reduce the chances of coming into contact with a bear.
