Old Snow King Double Chairs to Become Public Art in Jackson

Snow King Mountain Resort went through quite the transformation this past ski season. They installed a new gondola to their summit and added a terrain pod for intermediates. They removed the Summit Chairlift, which was installed in 1981, and was replaced last summer with an eight-person gondola. After being unable to find a buyer for the chairlift, Snow King auctioned off the chairlifts for $1500 each. Buckrail reports that twelve of these old chairs will be used as part of a public art project in downtown Jackson. The Jackson Town Council recently voted for the entirety of the Fiscal Year 2022 Public Art Capital Budget for the project. The public/private partnership is being done by the town (Jackson) Public Works Department and Jackson Hole Public Art. Twelve old double chairs will become part of the public art installation on Cache Street Corridor, in order to tell the history of Snow King.

The Public Works Department said that “each chair will come with a plaque that will recognize businesses who have sponsored the project and will further include a historical image and narrative telling different stories about the history of Snow King Mountain and the history of skiing in Wyoming.” The project is expected to be completed this Fall.
