A family in Washington state abandoned their Christmas Eve plans to save part of an elk herd that had fallen through the thin ice of the Kettle River. 40 of the Selkirk Elk Herd had made it across safely, but 12 had fallen through, and were doomed to eventually die.

Rylee Stuart, along with friends and family, managed to rescued 6 of 12 elk using a winch attached to a 4Runner. They worked for hours in the cold conditions to save as many of the elk as they could.

This story should make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. These brave people risked their lives to save these elk, and they should be commended for it!
