I’ve been embedded with the Midwestern folks here in Wisconsin for over 3 years now. They’re great people, but some of them are definitely limited in their skiing abilities. I hope I don’t get crucified for saying that, but skiing your whole life on 200-400′ vertical hills just doesn’t allow skiers to improve their skills like a big western mountain does, okay?
Sure, there’s plenty of skiers that take trips out west and are very capable of skiing the terrain. I’m just saying that there’s a population here who think that they’re better than they actually are, and has a rough time with the more difficult slopes of a place like Vail.
Wisconsin comedian Charlie Berens encapsulated that experience perfectly with a stand-up bit about his first time skiing in Colorado. There’s no shame in getting humbled by the mountain, but it is kind of funny… 😂
