Wagner Custom Skis is the pride of Telluride, CO.

The ski maker has led the custom ski market for years now, and is trying to make their business more environmentally sustainable for the future.

They recently took a trip into the San Juan Mountains to harvest wood cores from aspen trees that were knocked over by avalanches.

Adventure Journal made a cool video documenting the process of making the skis from the fallen trees. It’s really not a bad idea if you think about it. The trees were felled by natural causes, and they don’t serve much of a purpose just laying there on the mountain.

Good on Wagner to source local materials, and it’s probably pretty cool to say you own a pair of custom skis made from aspen trees felled by an avalanche in the San Juan Mountains.

At least I think that’s pretty cool…
