Trails on Vancouver’s North Shore are easily the most iconic in the sport of mountain biking. This style of trail building has been mimicked in every corner of the globe. If you have ever seen ladder bridges, seesaws, or “skinnies” on the trail…you have the North Shore to thank.

The Outlaw Sport is a very cool short video looking at the origins of trail building in the area. It chronicles how this style of building was very much illegal and looked down upon by the local government and the population of non-mountain bikers. It outlines how fantastic organizations like the North Shore Mountain Bike Association were created and have been able to legitimize and legalize these trails.

Unsanctioned trail building will always exist and the video takes a sensible and reasonable approach to discussing the matter.
