The Coloradoan is reporting that elk hunter Chris Chirichetti II filmed an official sighting of Colorado’s first wolves pups born in the state in 80 years.

Chirichetti was reportedly traveling to his elk hunting spot in Colorado when he saw multiple gray figures running in a field adjacent to the road. Him and his girlfriend were both skeptical that the animals were wolves, but officials have confirmed that they are indeed.

The State of Colorado had been tracking one male and one female wolf in the area over the last couple of years. They observed denning behaviors and pups earlier this year. Some are worried about how wolves will effect livestock populations, but no reports have been filed by farmers, yet.

Either way, still extremely cool to see wolves running wild in Colorado. It’s something that hasn’t been seen for nearly a century!
