That’s some quality engineering if I’ve ever seen it…

Is there a more quintessential dream of being the ultimate ski/snowboard bum than building your own private chairlift on your property?

I know that all of us have passed by a sizeable hill and thought, “If only I had a couple million extra dollars laying around. I’d buy that property, build my own personal chairlift, and never worry about waiting in lift lines again.”

Well, snowboarding legend Mike Basich did exactly that back in 2012 at his 40 acre Lake Tahoe property. The build looked extremely sketchy, but dammit if it didn’t look sweet as hell at the same time.

I remember watching this video when I was a teenager thinking that Basich really had life figured out. I mean is there anything better than ripping your own private chairlift at Lake Tahoe with your friends and your dog? I really don’t think any of you could dream a more perfect life to live.

I’m going to start saving my hard-earned ski blogging money to build one of these bad boys myself. Remember this blog 20 years from now when I pop up in the news for falling to my death from my own homemade chairlift at my property in Vermont.

It will be a tragic way to die, but it will be the way I wanted to go…
