I just stumbled across this quick montage of people slalom skiing from the 1960s to present day and I thought it was worth a share to my fellow ski lovers. It’s pretty cool to see how the technology, form, apparel, gear, and techniques have changed in the last 60 years.
Boy have we come a loooooong way since the 1960s.
I sometimes wish I had a time traveling device so I could bring a pair of modern skis back to 1960 to blow the minds of the skiers of that era. Showing them a ski with a sidecut might make a few of their heads explode, and get me accused of subscribing to communism, but it would be worth seeing the reactions on their faces.
Then I could time travel back to current day, hoping that the butterfly effect is true, and that my stunt jump-started ski tech development substantially to the point that we have hover skis in the current day. I don’t know about you, but I can confidently say that knowing I could ski without the need for snow would dramatically help my daily anxieties about climate change.
