A fishing boat participating in Ocean City, Maryland’s White Marlin Open called for help as they lost a battle with a blue marlin and their boat began to sink. Sara Stafford, aboard the ‘Fishbone’, shared that they heard the distress call and bolted to the coordinates to rescue the crew of the sinking vessel.

Here’s the full story that she shared along with the video:

“White Marlin Open 2021 Day 1:
Heard on the radio a boat was sinking, coast guard was coming and we didn’t see anyone we probably weren’t near them. Got their coordinates, reeled in everything and 3100 horsepower full speed ahead went and realized how close we were. They lost the fight on a blue marlin, they lost their boat and their personal belongings and fishing gear, but we did save them! And their beer. So we fed them and added a few to our amazing team for the day… terrifying and wonderful all at the same time. So glad everyone is safe. Captain William Chapman is a hero!! Let’s go “Fishbone”. #WhiteMarlinOpen White Marlin Open Maui Jim Fishbone Fishing Charters”

Unclear, but it sounds like the blue marlin that they hooked literally sank their boat, either way this situation must have been extremely terrifying. The boats are competing for an estimated $9.2 million in prize money. The leader, so far, caught an 82.5lb white marlin that’s fetching them a cool $4.9 million in prize money. Insane.
