The Summit Daily is reporting that Breckenridge ski patrollers have decided to unionize after a tight vote.
43 patrollers voted to unionize, and 42 patrollers voted against unionizing.
The Breck ski patrol will join the Communication Workers of America labor union as a result of the vote.
The National Labor Relations Board posted the details of who will be included in the union at Breck:
“Include: All full-time and regular part-time basic, intermediate, and advanced level Ski Patrollers and Ski Patrol Specialist employed by the Employer at the Breckenridge Ski Resort located in Breckenridge, Colorado. Exclude: All office clerical employees, confidential employees, managers, guards, and supervisors, as defined in the Act.”

Breckenridge Ski Patrol are among a growing list of ski patrol teams that have decided to unionize in recent years.
Interestingly enough, the majority of these new unions are forming at Vail-owned resorts.
I’m interested to see if more “dominoes will fall” at Vail-owned resorts in the coming years. Some ski patrollers at Vail Resorts clearly don’t feel that they’re being treated well…
