One of the biggest downhill events on The World Cup circuit was cancelled due to rising cases of COVID-19. The Wengen Lauberhorn will instead be held at Kitzbühel.
Some speculate that the decision was made due to concerns of the British variant of COVID-19 that was recently discovered. Switzerland has been flooded with British tourists this season as other countries shuttered their resorts to international travelers.
The men’s downhill at Wengen is the longest on The World Cup circuit, and normally attracts 30,000 spectators. There are no spectators allowed at World Cup events this season, but cancelling the race is surely a blow to the morale of the Swiss ski race faithful.
