South American Ski Resorts Getting Record Breaking Snowfall But Remain Closed Due To COVID-19

Images from Las Lenas, Argentina

Its been an epic month for snow accumulation in South America with some resorts reporting almost 5-meter snow depths, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, no ski resorts are currently able to open in Argentina or Chile.

It’s unclear when or if ski resorts will open this season with lockdown protocols and travel restrictions in place. Backcountry skiing is also currently banned due to the lack of rescue personal.

Las Leñas has already publicized it will not open for the season and if I had to guess, more resorts will make similar announcements in the near future. Truly a bummer for anyone who had hopes of shredding the Southern Hemisphere this season. Lo Siento.
