Squaw Valley ski patrol found a lost and injured skier on Monday nearly two miles out of bounds, near Needle Lake. The Sac Bee reports terrain was so difficult to access that a CHP helicopter was requested and flew the skier and the ski patrol unit back to high camp at Squaw. After Monday’s rescue, CHP Valley Division Air Operations posted video from the rescue with this statement:
“Squaw Valley Ski Patrollers located a skier today, who’d traveled approximately two miles out of bounds. The lost skier ended up near Needle Lake and due to difficult terrain CHP Helicopter (H-24) was requested. H-24 transported the lost skier and both ski patrollers back to high camp at Squaw Valley.
Ski Patrollers traverse dangerous terrain to locate lost and injured skiers. Please stay in bounds on trails and be aware of avalanche safety.”
