A-Basin’s first ski mountaineering race of the Rise and Shine Rando Series will take place next Tuesday 11/12 according to Summit Daily. The remainder of the races will take place at 7 a.m. on 11/26, 12/10, 12/17, 1/7, and 1/21.
The first race of the series will be a timed event. Skiers will skin up High Noon to Black Mountain Lodge, and then ski down Ramrod to The Mountain Goat Plaza. Whoever completes the most laps in one hour (by 8 a.m.), will be declared the champion.
I’m embarrassed to say this as an avid skier, but I’ve never actually skinned before. However, every time I read about people doing stuff like this it makes me more inclined to get after it. I need to earn some turns this season.
