Image of Grizzly Bear From National Park Service

Colin Dowler is lucky to be alive after he was attacked by a grizzly bear in a remote area of the B.C. coast. Dowler was riding alone when he encountered the bear. He told CBC News that he first used a ski pole to try and deter the bear from attacking, but he quickly found himself fighting for his life. Luckily for Dowler, he has recently gifted a knife which he used to stab the bear in the neck.

“I was thinking, I’m not gonna make it. It was pretty freaking scary.”

After a 7km ride, Dowler found a work crew who radioed for help. Doctors say that he is lucky to be alive due to his quite serious injuries.
