The cat and mouse game between cops and skaters has been played out on the streets ever since dudes were gleaming the cube and the popo where rolling boxy crown vics but when one or the other is in actual distress rivalries are forgotten and folks step up to help. Just take this incident in Manhattan where a good Samaritan skater helped out a cop who got his middle finger stuck in the trunk of a NYPD cruiser. Here’s the official statement from the NYPD:

“While on duty in Lower Manhattan on Sunday evening, July 28, an officer assigned to Patrol Borough Manhattan South was loading items into the trunk of his patrol car when the lid came down on his right hand, trapping his middle finger. A passerby came to the officer’s aid and, with the help of other civilians, was able to open the trunk lid and free the officer. The officer was not seriously injured.” – NYPD spokesman Alfred Baker
