Two Cities Remain To Host 2026 Olympics | Decision To Be Made On Monday

On Monday, the International Olympic Committee will announce who they have chosen to host the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

Final presentations will be made on Sunday by representatives of the two remaining finalist, Stockholm-Åre, Sweden and Milan-Cortina, Italy.

Just a few months ago the 2026 games looked to be the Winter Olympics that no-one wanted as all but two of potential hosts pulled out.

Austrian cities Innsbruck and Graz, Sion in Switzerland and Calgary in Canada all failed to win public support to host the games.

Italy has hosted the Olympics twice before, Cortina d’Ampezzo hosted the 1956 Games and Turin the 2006 Games.

If Stockholm-Åre wins, it will be the first Winter Olympic Games to be held in Sweden, however Sweden did host the 1912 Summer Olympics.

As it stands, the Milan-Cortina bid is seen to be a favorite after scoring highly in the IOC’s Evaluation Commission report.
